Michael Conway Baker
After winning 3 Canadian Academy Awards (GENIES) for film music
and an ACTRA Award (GEMINI) for music for a TV series, Michael
Conway Baker understands the invaluable contribution of good
music to any video/multimedia project.
While he has produced many scores (180 to date as well as
118 concert works) using MIDI gear in his own studio, Michael
is best known for his orchestral scores, and has recorded film
music with the world’s major orchestras, including the Vancouver
Symphony, Toronto Symphony, London (England) Symphony, Sinfonia
of London, the Utah Symphony and numerous professional ensembles.
His music is known for its memorable themes and rich melodic
Some of his most highly praised music is for films such as JOHN
AND THE MISSUS, THE GREY FOX and SAVAGE LAND. Featured prominently
at Expo 86 in Vancouver were his FANFARE FOR EXPO 86, which opened
the event, and the scores to the films DISCOVERY, for the British
Columbia Pavilion, and ISLAND IN SPACE, for the United Nations
Pavilion. International listeners have recently heard his 90 minute
ice ballet for Dorothy Hamill's Ice Capades "CINDERELLA" on tour
and on television and video. Both the CBC in Canada and the BBC in
Britain have recorded and broadcast one-hour concerts devoted
entirely to music composed by Michael - an extremely rare event
in either country for a living composer.
Michael has received the JUNO award for Best Classical Composition
on recordings as well as the Order of British Columbia.
